Our mission is to provide an affordable and effective way for people to develop in-demand skills in the areas of Web Design and Development.  Our goal is to provide courses that are accessible for people who are currently employed, so our format will focus on evening and online formats.  Students can enroll in our courses either though our  Northwest Vista College Continuing Education Department or as regular academic courses.

The NVC Web Skills Academy is part of the Digital Media Department at the award-winning Northwest Vista College (NVC) – one of the Alamo Colleges in San Antonio. NVC is an accredited, public community college. We are an institution you can trust.

Earn a Web & Mobile Design Enhanced Skills Certificate

Already have some skills in HTML/CSS, but the jobs you are looking at is asking for more advanced skills? This one semester program will focus on developing advanced skills with WordPress. WordPress powers almost 27 percent of the entire internet. With 50,000 WordPress site being launched daily, there is a ton of opportunities to work on great projects from small blogging sites to profitable eCommerce websites. Students who complete both courses will earn a Web and Mobile Design Enhanced Skills Certificate.

30853 INEW2434 Adv Web Programming W 6-8:30 Flex I This course will focus upon building interactive websites using PHP and mySQL. PHP powers 80% of the web and WordPress (Open source and powerful content management system / CMS) is built on PHP.

 

Prerequisite:  Students will be expected to have a solid understanding of HTML/CSS prior to entering this course.

30813 IMED2359 Interactive Web Elements W 6-8:30 Flex II This course will focus creation of websites using WordPress. The course will include advanced skills such as building your own template and creating plugins.You’ll learn to turn your WordPress skills into profit. We’ll be using Sass preprocessor, jQuery, Bootstrap, Gulp and more tools that helps web developers work and efficiency.

 

Prerequisite:  Students will be expected to have a solid understanding of HTML/CSS prior to entering this course. Knowledge of PHP also helpful.

Our Instructors:

Rudy Macias is the Technical Director of a great team at Sweb Development and has over 15 years experience building dynamic websites and applications. He is a husband and father to 2 amazing kiddos, any tips for future parents please ask – also has tons to say. Hoping to help everyone get the “aha” moment in their programming career. Rudy was awarded the 2014 “Software/App Developer of the Year” award by the San Antonio Business Journal.

Nenad Manoilov is a Full Stack Web Developer at HEB eCommerce department and has been exposed to big spectrum of tools and technologies from over 5 years  – from open source to big enterprise solutions. He loves sharing his knowledge, and is eager to introduce a lot of valuable tools and techniques that will give you advantage over average web developer in the industry. He’s a husband and a father to a 2 year old boy Nikola. His family is his inspiration and motivation for continued education and growing in his career.

 

Web Designer Occupational Skills

Want to start developing your Web Design skills? Then this two semester program is for you.  We recommend these two courses in the Spring, followed by IMED 2315 in the summer or next fall.

This course will focus upon the foundations of Digital Media, graphic design and the use of the Adobe Creative Suite.

This course will focus upon the creation of web pages/sites using HTML and CSS.
